Members arrive early to each meeting to setup the tables and chairs. Members also stay after the meeting to take down the tables and chairs. Participation in these necessary activities is encouraged as it also provides an opportunity for members to socialize.
At each meeting, members in good standing can contribute $1 to a progressive jackpot. Each member in good standing is assigned a number. At the end of the meeting one number is drawn. If the member with the number drawn is absent or did not contribute to the jackpot at that meeting, then the money in the jackpot rolls over to the next meeting. If the member with that number is present and contributed to the jackpot at that meeting, they win the entire amount collected to date.
At each meeting, tickets are sold for $1. At the end of the meeting one winner is drawn. The winner receives one half of the money collected.
Liquid refreshments are provided at each meeting. A ‘tip’ jar is placed on the bar. Members who can afford to contribute for the drinks they consume are encouraged to do so. Members who cannot afford to contribute may partake of the club’s generosity. A variety of beverages are provided. If your favorite is not available, just ask. If there is enough interest, the beverage will be added to the list.
Elected officials in attendance at a meeting are generally given the courtesy of an opportunity to speak to the membership. The presiding officer has the discretionary power to decide when speakers will be allowed to speak.
Guest speakers are scheduled frequently. Members may suggest speakers and topics to the President. Speakers on topics relevant and important to the members and the community are preferred.
Newsletter submissions and articles are due two weeks prior to a general meeting. The preferred methods for submissions are published in each newsletter in the section labeled Editorial Policy.
If an unsold 10-week raffle ticket is the winning number, the proceeds are diverted to the club treasury. Any 10-week raffle tickets not paid for before the first weeks’ drawing, are considered as unsold.
In accordance with the Bylaws, the Sergeant-At-Arms is responsible for maintaining attendance records. A sign-in book is placed on a table near the entrance to the meeting. It is the responsibility of each member to sign the attendance book. The attendance book is the official source for determining if a member has attended enough meetings to seek a club office.
The Bylaws require that all requests for donations of more than $25 be presented to the Board of Governors before being presented to the membership.
The incoming President is responsible for selecting and scheduling someone to swear in the new Board of Governors at the December meeting.
